SENTIMENTAL FOR SEBASTIEN?
It seems Indycar fans are a sentimental bunch. A recent survey on indycar.com questioned what content fans most enjoyed – the technical wizardry? The highlights? No, the winner by a mile (there’s a pun there somewhere!) was the vintage races. Modern classics such as the 1986 race in Toronto and Milwaukee in 1991 can be viewed in all their glory, perfect for days when the weather’s best left to the ducks and an invaluable resource for younger fans who were tearing around on all fours whilst the the likes of Bobby Rahal and Chip Robinson were tearing around at a considerably faster pace…
It seems though sentimentality will only get you so far…as Sebastien Bourdais may soon be finding out. US open-wheel champion, Paul Tracy, has vocalised what I’m sure many fans are feeling – that Bourdais can’t be expected to come back to his old stomping ground, proverbial tail between his legs, and expect to gain a top seat. This seems reasonable enough but Sebastien is a four-times Champcar winner and, in motorsport, points mean prizes and victories are big business.
Would you welcome Bourdais back? Does he need to swallow some humble pie and work his way up with a smaller team? Will he even want to return to the world of American Open Wheel and if not just what will he do? As always let me know!
