SHUT OUT…
Formula 2 returns to Brands Hatch this weekend following an incredible 25 year absence (what took you so long guys?!) And with just 7 points dividing the top 5 drivers, and new talents such as Jack Clarke coming into their own at Spa, this could prove a crucial round for the drivers. So how do you follow all the excitement? Well that could be an issue…
Eurosport do show the races however for those of us in the UK with mere freeview (not to mention overseas viewers sans cable) it’s an altogether trickier task. You can watch the action online through live streaming but lets face it, most internet connections can barely handle YouTube quality video, let alone speeding F2 cars. F2, like most sport, relies on sponsorship but with limited access to audiences you can understand a certain reluctance on behalf of companies, and I’m sure I don’t need to explain the problems this can cause…
The lack of coverage leads to another issue, how do you draw new fans in without mainstream coverage? Since F2 is traditionally an F1 feeder series should they be offering support and be encouraging their many (many, many) media outlets to flag up the series or is the plight of F2 no different to that of any series that isn’t F1, NASCAR or indeed MotoGP? Is a lack of ‘celebrity’ driver a factor? Coverage and sponsorship are issues I’ll be exploring in future posts but (as always) I’d love to hear your views!
(And I check the stats so I know you’re out there! Make your opinions known lol)
