It’s not often interviews captivate me without a little controvesy / sound bite thrown-in but this proved to be an exception. AXE OUT FOR A1?
Confidence is a preference for the habitual voyeur of what is known as…(whoops wrong sport?!) It seems confidence is also pretty handy when working in A1GP too.
After taking time to devour individual teams over the last 18 months (BMW, Suzuki, Honda) the credit crunch could be about to claim its biggest victim -with a whole championship at risk. The future of A1GP could be in serious doubt after its main body, A1GP Operation Ltd, was revealed to be having money worries and had gone into liquidation.
It’s not the first time the series has struggled and these fresh concerns could prove to be the final nail in the coffin but if you listen to Teixeira. The series chief may well have optimism as his middle name and is looking confidently to the 09/10 season – from the amount of fee-paying races on the cards (a record 8) to the sponsorship opportunities but with no major sponsor after four years could this season be the swan song for a championship that’s seen the likes of Vitantonio Liuzzi, Nelson Piquet Jnr and Renault test driver Adam Khan all enjoy victory? Will the confidence of Teixeira translate to investment or do the figures make for reading that’s just too morbid for sponsors to handle?
